Liberty Lobby, founded in 1955, operated for more than 40 years in Washington, DC, where it also published a weekly paper, The Spotlight.

As a consequence of a long, drawn-out legal battle, Liberty Lobby and its weekly paper went out of business in the summer of 2001. By California Superior Court order of August 2, 2002 (text below), all assets and legal rights of Liberty Lobby were assigned to Legion for the Survival of Freedom, Inc. (LSF), parent corporation of the Institute for Historical Review. Liberty Lobby and The Spotlight have been merged into the LSF's nexus of operations.

Judgment Creditor LEGION FOR THE SURVIVAL OF FREEDOM’s Motion for an Assignment Order came before this Court on the above date and time in Courtroom 23 of the above-entitled Court, the Honorable Runston G. Maino presiding. LEGION FOR THE SURVIVAL OF FREDOM appeared through its counsel, Bryan D. Sampson. Judgment Debtors LIBERTY LOBBY, WILLIS CARTO and ELISABETH CARTO appeared through their counsel, J. Brian Urtnowski. Upon reviewing the pleadings, hearing oral argument, and good cause appearing therefor;

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that any and all rights, title and interest in the good will and going concern of Judgment Debtor LIBERTY LOBBY, INC., including but not limited to its name and names of all its subsidiaries, all website rights, along with the right to receive current and future bequests in its name, are hereby assigned to Judgment Creditor LEGION FOR THE SURVIVAL OF FREDOM, INC. This assignment includes the exclusive right to record the assigned name with any appropriate public record agency.

IT IS HEREBY FURTHER ORDRED that Judgment Debtors LIBERTY LOBBY, INC., WILLIS CARTO and ELISABETH CARTO, and each of them, as well as their respective principals, agents, partners, managers, attorneys, employees, servants, heirs, assignees, successors, representatives and all persons acting under, in concert with or for them, are hereby enjoined from receiving, transferring, assigning, disposing, interfering with, or encumbering any of the assigned rights and any current or future right to payment due Judgment Debtors pending further Order of this Court.

IT IS HEREBY FURTHER ORDRED that any and all proceeds due from any Trust or Probate, wherever located, which is payable to any of the Judgment Debtors LIBERTY LOBBY, INC., WILLIS CARTO and ELISABETH CARTO, which are presently due or to become due in the future shall be paid directly to:
